Christ Church Play Group

Christ Church Play Group

Christ Church Play Group, has more than doubled in size this year. Cathy Brown and I took over the running of the small but strong group last year. We have run a Christian based programme that includes teaching children to pray and teaching them about God through the church calendar. We provide morning tea for parents and children and have a structured craft activity. Our highest number of children to date is 27 this is largely due to our new wonderful volunteers from the 8 o’clock congregation of the parish Jean Bain, Geraldine Leon and Edna Ferdandopulle. Jean is a wonderful teacher with lots of experience, the families are loving her story and music time. She is also spending many hours a week preparing the craft activity. Geraldine is great with the babies, having extra arms to hold babies while mums play with their toddlers is invaluable. She makes our play dough and generally organizes everything else. Edna prepares the morning teas, cleans up after us and also helps with the children. Val Attard has become a regular part of our team. She sits with children and reads to them. I encourage parishioners to come and join in and bring any talents they have to share with us. All of this new input has made my job so much easier, and I am now able to spent time talking with mums and supporting them in their parenting role and encouraging them in their faith.

Sunday School

Christ Church Sunday SchoolOur Sunday school fluctuates in numbers and ages. We have children aged from two to thirteen, and anything from two to twelve on any given Sunday. They all seem to cope well in a class altogether, although I would love some more volunteer so we can divide the age groups. Ann Gorroick has been a diligent helper since I have been here, and I would like to thank her for her commitment.
