A historic Christian faith. Good news for today.
At Christ Church North Adelaide, we believe that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and for ever. We are an Anglican parish shaped by Holy Scripture, the Book of Common Prayer, and a warm welcome for people at every stage of faith.
Reverence and warmth belong together here. Questions are welcome.
At the heart of our life is Jesus Christ
Christ Church is a parish of the Anglican Church of Australia and part of the one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We hold the Christian faith received from the apostles and professed in the Nicene and Apostles’ Creeds.
We believe in one God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, who created all things and calls us into communion with him. Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, died for our sins, rose bodily from the dead and reigns as Lord. Through him God offers forgiveness, righteousness and eternal life.
The Holy Ghost brings us to new birth, unites us with Christ, forms the Church and enables us to grow in holiness and love.
Grace through faith
We are saved by God’s grace, received through faith, and not by our own merit.
Holy Scripture
We receive the Old and New Testaments as the ultimate rule and standard of Christian faith, containing all things necessary for salvation.
Word and Sacrament
In Baptism and Holy Communion, Christ gathers, nourishes and strengthens his people.
Prayer Book worship: a living tradition
Our regular services use the 1662 Book of Common Prayer, in accordance with the Christ Church Trust Deed.
The Prayer Book gives Anglicans a common pattern of worship, doctrine and devotion. We do not treat it as a museum piece. Its language is saturated with Scripture, and its yearly pattern leads us through the saving work of Jesus Christ.
“Thy word is a lantern unto my feet, and a light unto my paths.”
Psalm 119:105
Read, preached and studied as the Word of God
Through Holy Scripture we hear the saving acts of God, the promises fulfilled in Jesus Christ, and the call to repentance, faith and holy living.
The King James Version, also known as the Authorised Version, is normally used for readings in our public worship. Its dignity, rhythm and theological vocabulary belong naturally with the 1662 Book of Common Prayer. Other reliable translations are also helpful for personal study and explanation.
Why the King James Version?
Commissioned in 1604 and first published in 1611, it became the principal English Bible used in the Church of England and has profoundly shaped Christian worship, preaching, literature and the English language.
