Belonging at Christ Church
Everyone is welcome to worship with us. Seat-holding is a particular way for adult communicant members to make a formal commitment to the parish, share in its governance and support its mission.
You do not need to be a seat-holder to be welcome here
Anyone may attend our services, join parish activities and become part of the life of Christ Church. Those admitted to Holy Communion in their own churches are welcome to receive Communion with us.
It is the historic name for formal membership of the local congregation and a commitment to its worship, witness and common life.
What it means to become a seat-holder
Seat-holders support the work of the Gospel at Christ Church through prayer, participation, service and financial commitment.
Belong
Take an active place in the worship and community of Christ Church and share in our life together.
Support
Contribute the annual pew-rent that supports parish ministry, property and mission partners.
Participate
Attend Vestry meetings, vote in parish elections and help shape the stewardship of the parish.
Who can become a seat-holder?
Under diocesan requirements, a seat-holder must meet all of the following:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a communicant member of the Anglican Church
- Have received Holy Communion at least three times in the previous year
- Not be a member of another parish, church or denomination
Timing matters
The annual contribution must be received at least three months before the next Easter Vestry Meeting for membership to be recognised for that meeting.

Pew-rent and parish mission
The contribution may be paid as a lump sum or in instalments by bank transfer, direct debit or the envelope collection. Payment details are available through the Parish Office.
The specific external projects supported are confirmed each year at the Easter Vestry Meeting.
Participating in Vestry
Seat-holders may take part in Vestry meetings, the parish equivalent of an annual general meeting. The Easter Vestry Meeting is held on the fourth Sunday after Easter.
At this meeting, annual reports are received, members of Select Vestry and other parish officers are elected, and the Rector’s appointments are announced.
More than administration
Vestry is one expression of shared responsibility: praying for the parish, stewarding its resources and supporting its mission in North Adelaide and beyond.
